Bounce Protection is an overdraft privilege that may be assigned to your checking account at account opening and maintained on your account as long as your account is in good standing.
Your account is in "good standing if:
- You make sufficient deposits to bring your account to a positive end-of-day balance at least once every 30 calendar days (including the payment of all bank fees and charges)
- You avoid excessive overdrafts suggesting the use of Bounce Protection as a continuing line of credit
- There are no legal orders, levies, or liens against your account. Farmers & Merchants Bank may honor overdrafts up to your Bounce Protection limit. There is no initial start up cost associated with this privilege. However, keep in mind that we will charge you a fee of $30 each time we pay an overdraft ($150 maximum per day). We will also charge a continuous overdraft charge of $3 per day after 6 business days.
A fee may be imposed for overdrafts created by check, in-person withdrawal, ATM withdrawal, or other electronic means.
Farmers and Merchants Bank reserves the right to require that you pay an overdraft immediately or on demand instead of affording you a specific time period to establish a positive balance in your account.
Whether your overdrafts will be paid is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing or you are not making regular deposits, or you have too many overdrafts.
We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to:
- ATM transactions
- Everyday debit card transactions
